Probability of Event not Happening

Concept Explanation

Probability of Event not Happening

Probability of Event Not Happening:

Probability of Happening of Event + Probability of Not Happening of Event = 1

Probability of Event Not Happening = 1- Probability of Happening of Event

Example 1: We have balls number 1 to 9. What is the probability of not picking an even numbered ball.

Sol: Total number of possible outcomes= 9 as there are 9 balls.

Total Number of favourable cases = 1,3,5,7,9 Numberd ball is picked. Therefore the number of favourable  cases is 5

small dpi{120} small P(Not;an;Even; Numbered; ball) = frac{5}{9}

Otherwise as in the earlier example, we have calculated the probability of occuranceas= 4/9

Probability of Not occuring an event

small small 1-frac{4}{9}= frac{9-4}{9} = frac{5}{9}
